Enjoy your Dublin stay at low prices
Apart from being clean and cheap, accomodation in Dublin should be in a very central location in order for you to enjoy your trip the most. Owing to the slightly imperfect public transport system, for example through traffic jams at all times, it is recommended to look for accomodation within walking distance to all major sites and tourist attractions. Therefore a reservation up to three months before your trip will definitely pay off afterwards.
Of course there are plenty of expensive hotels like the Best Western, Hilton or the beautiful Capitol Hotel. Whoever wishes to stay the most central of all places should take a look at the Jury Doyle Hotels or the "Clarence Hotel" which is centrally located in the famous Temple Bar district and partly belongs to the Irish rock band U2.
All others should check out the lovely Bead & Breakfast houses or Guesthouses. Many young people (and we as well) prefer staying in hostels, which can be easily found and booked at www.hostels.com or www.hostelworld.com. You can usually choose between big dorms or single/double bedrooms or ensuites with private or shared bathrooms. You might also find common rooms or a kitchen that can be used by anyone. Meeting new people and making friends is thereby an easy task and also pays off if you're heading into town with a bunch of people opposing to exploring everything on your own. A general rule: the more people there are in a room, the cheaper it gets. Booking an empty bed can also be a good option if you intend to leave valuables in your room. However we wouldn't recommend that, most houses also offer safes or secure places to deposit things.
A special place to stay is the Trinity College. During semester breaks visitors can stay in the hall of residences and enjoy modern interiors and traditional exteriors at the same time. Old university buildings and parks as well as an ample breakfast and 24 hours security service add to that.
You can stay at the Trinity College at a very low price and you're instantly in the very heart of Dublin. Close to all sites, shopping streets and (most important) to Temple Bar, the best place to party at night. You'll reach everything within 15 minutes by feet and even if you drank a bit too much you'll always make it home safely.
